Plainspoken Receives Recognition In 2024 Best Shorts Film Competition

 Conscientious Documentary Explores Race Relations in the Deep South Hometown of Former President Jimmy Carter

NASHVILLE, December 18, 2024–The 2024 film Plainspoken, a documentary exploring race relationships in the Deep South community of Plains, Georgia, a town unique for its international renown as the hometown of the late former President of the United States Jimmy Carter and his wife, former First Lady Rosalynn Carter, has been recognized with three Awards of Recognition from The Best Shorts Film Competition.

Making his film debut with Plainspoken, Andrew Greer was recognized for his direction in the film. While Plainspoken’s production team of April Dace of Dace & Mohr, Chris Cameron of Narrative Productions, who also served as Director of Photography and Lead Editor on the film, and Greer, received awards in the categories of Documentary Short and Contemporary Issue/Awareness Raising.

“We are just getting started in trying our hands at making documentaries, so I am grateful for any recognition of Plainspoken from our peers in the film industry,” said the film’s director, writer, and co-producer, Andrew Greer. “But the true reward are the new conversations being sparked in the hearts and homes of those who are viewing the film around the country.”

The Best Shorts Competition recognizes film, television, videography and new media professionals who demonstrate exceptional achievement in craft and creativity, and those who produce standout entertainment or contribute to profound social change. In winning a Best Shorts Award, the creators of Plainspoken join the ranks of other high-profile winners of this internationally respected award including Academy Award winner Mr. Hublot from Laurent Witz from Luxembourg, 2021 Academy Award-nominee Doug Roland for the short film Feeling Through, Disney Interactive for Vinlymation: A Love Story, and more.
